Wedding Toasts, Best Man

Maid of Honor Speech

One of the most common searches that I found was driving people to visit my site was “wedding toasts best man”.  So, I’ve put together some tips and tricks that will help the most unprepared best man deliver his speech at the wedding.

Here’s a link for some amazing pre-made best man toasts.  Check these out if you’re in a hurry.

If you have only days, or God forbid hours to deliver your speech,  don’t fret.  Skip down to the examples section and just start trying to run them through in your head.  Stay calm, and remember you don’t need to get them down word for word…in fact it would be much better if you didn’t.  Just remember the main storyline, and get that in your head.  Trust me, it will easy once you’ve run over it a few times in your head.

If you’ve got a few weeks or more to prepare for this thing, bravo!  You’ve in great shape.

Wedding toasts best man style – a simple guide

Here are the ABCs, in quick fashion:

1…The intro.  Tell the crowd you’re the best man, and you’d like to give a toast.

2…Tell a story.  This should be something about the couple or the groom that you know about.  Say, how and where you met, or something funny that happened to you in the course of your knowing each other.

3…Offer the toast.  This is when you raise your glass, as a now accomplished wedding toasts best man master, and say “I’d like to offer a toast”.  Make the toast to the future, and say something meaningful about the person or the couple, based on the story you told.  For instance, if the story was about how the groom saved your life once, you could focus on how he was the most selfless and honorable individual you know, then wish them many more years of happiness.

Because wedding toasts best man style are often quick, here’s some quick examples to get you on your way.  Note that I give much more detailed advice in general about toasts on my site, so jump on over to the page on wedding toasts and speeches for more detailed info.

Examples:

“Hi.  My name is David, and I’ve been invited to be the best man.  Greg [the groom] has asked me to say a few words.

Greg and I met when we were in school.  He was always a bit rowdy.  There was a time when we were out 4 by-ing, and we blew a tire, and the thing caught on fire.  Greg actually pulled me out of that car, and good thing because it caught on fire!  He did it completely without thinking about himself.  It was that day that I knew he was one of the most selfless people I had ever met.

So let’s all raise our glasses with a toast to the most selfless friend I have and his beautiful wife. We wish them many years of happiness together.”

With joke:

“Hi.  I’m John, and I’m the best man.  Dave asked me to say a word or two, so here we go.  I hope you all enjoy long, tedious speeches.  I’ve prepared one for you that will last no less than 2 hours.

Dave and I met in our first year at school in engineering 101.  I knew he was destined to either become a great engineer or to blow himself up.  I tend to think the former is starting to take place, but the jury is still out.

In all seriousness, Dave helped me get through school in a way that I could never hope to repay.  I really want to say thank you Dave.  You truly are a great friend.

(Raise glass) To a great friend and his wife, here’s to Dave and Laura”
